Some prominent names

Arthur Lloyd, a British professor of Tokyo Imperial University who translated Konjiki Yasha "The Golden Demon,"

American Dr. D.B. Simmons, a benefactor of Japan medicine.

Carl Flaig, a German who was general manager of the Imperial Hotel during the period and laid the foundation for the spread of Western-style hotels.

In addition, Francis Brinkley, Edoardo Chiossone, Charles Garst, Frederick Willian Krecker, Samuel & Susan Schereschewsky and G.H.F. Verbeck.
